Valentine's Lino Print Design

I know it's early but this weekend I have been thinking about some new designs for Valentine's. Last year I printed some love notes and gift tags ....

Last night I started work on a simple engraved heart design. First I drew the design onto brown paper, then I transfered the design onto lino.

Next I cut into the lino, I made sure that I cut out the parts of my design that I wanted to stay white.

Once I was happy with my design, I used a roller to apply an even layer of linseed oil based ink.
Then I used the back of an old wooden spoon to press hard on a sheet of paper I had laid over the top.

The last stage was to carefully peel back the paper to reveal the printed design (this is always my favourite part!).

Voila! The finished design!

This is now in my shop for £10... with a pure white mount. See it here...
It also comes in a deep pink colour as seen below.

Christmas is coming...

Feeling festive, I listed another Christmas card I've printed onto Folksy... find it here...http://folksy.com/items/3922638-Lino-Printed-Christmas-Card-Baubles

With a bit of persuasion this week my husband dug around in the attic and brought down the Christmas decorations. I am a bit obsessive about collecting vintage glass baubles, I have far more than any woman would realistically need but I just can't resist them... all shiny and colourful, like sweets. I've collected them over years, mostly from car boot sales, charity shops and occasionally from ebay. Some are hand painted and are just beautiful. These are my favourites...

I also dusted off the angel that sits at the top of our tree this year. I remember being presented with her when I was at Play group (I could only have been three or four years old but I have a bizarre memory for such things). She has a yellowing crepe paper dress, her wings are held on with a rubber band and her eyes are struggling to open. She looks pretty mournful and her party days are behind her but she reminds me of Christmases past so she's here to stay.

A wintery walk...

This morning was crisp, bright and chilly. Wrapped up in woolies, I set off for a wintery walk along Paignton harbour, Goodrington beach and Fairy Cove- arm in arm with Mr Higgins, camera slung over my shoulder... these are some of the photos I took.
